The Pitlochry Enchanted Forest, the renowned outdoor sound and light show, is set to delight the senses once more when it returns to the Faskally Woods in October 2020. Featured in 2019 in the Lonely Planet’s Ultimate UK Travel Guide, previous accolades include winner of UK’s Best Cultural Event, the Scottish Outdoor Leisure Award for Best Outdoor Festival, as well as Scotland’s Best Large Event. The Enchanted Forest adopts a different theme each year – previous motifs have included Cosmos – Look Up, Be Inspired (2019) with its exceptional representation of the universe, Of the Wild – Nature by Night (2018) with its spectacular wild life images, Oir an Uisage (2017), with its entrancing water displays, Shimmer (2016), and its dazzling animations, and Flux (2015), which incorporated mesmerising acrobatics.
Established in 2002, by James McDougall of The Forestry Commission in response to TreeFest Scotland, its aim was to encourage people to visit the countryside and forests by showcasing them in unusual and unique ways. Since the Forestry Commission handed the running of the event to the local community it has been organised by a dedicated group of Pitlochry locals who, with the support of many businesses in the area, have run this annual autumnal event since 2013.
Each year the Enchanted Forest Community Trust chooses a trio of charities to benefit from the event, they also fund a variety of local groups and organisations in the area, ensuring that the show is not only entertaining for visitors, but widely beneficial for the local Perthshire communities.
